suggested that rolling furloughs distort that picture at least a bit. With 8
percent of the work force, Caterpillar Inc. is the largest of several local
firms to ask employees to take time off without pay, and that is reflected in
unemployment figures.

receives Federal Funding for Tech Commercialization
It is no accident that CNN Money and Fortune Small Business
ranked the Peoria area as the fifth best midsized city to launch a small
business. The Biotechnology Research and Development Center (BRDC) is an
important part of the collaboration driving this region forward.

Chicago Charter School Students Share Their Experiences
Peoria residents are getting the opportunity to learn more
about a possible charter school coming to District 150. The Peoria
Charter School Initiative is looking to educate the public on the benefits of
having a charter school in District 150.
The Peoria Initiative is hosting a community forum for residents to get to know more about what charter schools have to offer. The Peoria Charter School Initiative, brought students, teachers, parents and administrators from a high performing Chicago charter school to talk with Peoria residents.
Charter School Group Moves Ahead
The Peoria Charter School Initiative group filed a design framework for a math, science and technology school with the district in early August. On Thursday, the group provided an update on the charter school, also inviting students, teachers and others from the Chicago Math and Science Academy - also a charter school - to talk about their charter school.
